Until now, I used to use a carafe filter to limit my purchases of bottled water, but the purchase of plastic filters that I had to throw away later bothered me. Especially since we don't really know what's inside... Here we have a set of 4 sticks of Japanese oak charcoal. The charcoal has the virtue to filter chemicals and heavy metals (mercury, lead, etc.) which are captured by the micropores of the stick. Before use, it is necessary to boil the sticks for 10 minutes. The filtration becomes effective after 4 hours and optimal after 8 hours.the operation of boiling is to be repeated every month during 6 months then one can recycle the stick in fertilizer or in air purifier for example. One can thus filter 810 liters of water! As there are 4 sticks, you can be sure of 2 years of use depending on the frequency of use. Thus the price at the purchase is largely paid off, especially as we save on the bottle and we do not produce plastic.drawbacks:- it comes from Japan, so for people who play the game of zero waste, we have a heavy carbon footprint.- 1% is paid to fight against deforestation. Considering the price of the product, it is a little petty but good!

It also leaves some deposits (normal for charcoal) but this does not prevent a daily use. The dry sticks are fragile, but well protected. Filters well, and use surely longer than indicated. A little expensive when you know that it is only burned bamboo) But the benefits of active charcoal are numerous, and not easy to produce by yourself. Coupled with ceramic beads it is super top. Binchotan activated charcoal, I've heard of it before, but it's the first time I've had it in my hands... Indeed, these charcoals come from Japan, and are packaged in France... Usually I buy Binchotan made of oak. Here I wanted to test this one based on bamboo. Of course it is more fragile and does not last as long but these two negative points are largely compensated by the fact that they are much faster to filter since there is more surface of contact with water.
